The article I chose
consisted of tips and information on how to prevent board rash from surfing. Firstly,
it explains how surf wax is made and how it prevents a burn from a surf board.
It explains how it is formed with beeswax or paraffin. These substances work
effectively to prevent rashes by making it harder for people to slip off their
board. Unfortunately, the wax can cause irritation on the skin by the repeated
friction. The most common areas of the rash being, the stomach or rib cage
area, armpit, or inner thighs. The burn
occurs during the most movement of the surfer like paddling, holding onto the
board with your thighs, and constantly sitting up and laying on the board.
The author then goes
into detail on a product, Naked Surf. This treatment prevents, relieves and
heals the swelling and pain of the board rash. It moisturizes, places a
protective barrier in the skin, and then reduces the symptoms of the burn. And
finally, this product is safe for the environment.
In my opinion I
believe this was a well written article. It gives background information on why
people get this burn, while providing tips and unbiased opinions of individuals
who surf and have tried various techniques of treatment. It shows the reader how
common the rash is, but the science and experiments that verified the success
of the product.
